If you own, borrow or hire a piece of test equipment without a manual, using that equipment can be difficult or impossible. It is unlikely you will make best use of it. But manuals of decent quality can be difficult to get. Sometimes programming information is not copied, circuit diagrams missing etc.

The approach proposed here is to get everyone to share their manuals (where copyright allows), by scanning part of the manual. If sufficient people each scan a different part of a manual, manuals can be obtained. Agilent will grant a license to permit this for obsolete equipment, although you do have to ask for a license. You will find:

• A list of manuals, application notes and help being offered and wanted.
• A page where you can add your entry requesting help, or better still offering it.
